The political map of Burundi has evolved over time, reflecting administrative reforms aimed at improving governance and regional development. The former political map consisted of 18 provinces such as Bujumbura, Ngozi, Gitega, and Makamba, each functioning as key administrative units. In contrast, the new political map reorganizes these into fewer, larger provinces including Gitega, Bujumbura, Butanyerera, Buhumuza, and Burunga. This restructuring enhances administrative efficiency and resource management. Both maps highlight major cities, transport networks, rivers, and borders with neighboring countries like Rwanda, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, providing valuable geographic and political context for understanding Burundi’s territorial organization.
